Parable Contest

Share your story and win Christmas dinner for your family!

We are having a contest for short parables that relate the blessings from the sermon on the mount to modern life.

The winning parables will be published and the author fully credited.  Many of the remaining parables will be used for teaching the blessings of the beatitudes and how they really are relevant in today’s world.

Each parable should be short (between 800 to 1500 words), should relate to a specific blessing (blessed are the meek for example) and should illustrate how it really means something tangible and powerful in real life. Each of the blessings are listed on this site, and you can find more information HERE.

Relating true stories is fine, but make sure to fictionalize them to protect the feelings of anyone involved.

Now about the AWARDS…

Each winner will get a WalMart gift certificate that can be used to buy a Christmas turkey or ham and all the fixings, can be used for toys or clothes for Christmas gifts, or can be given to a Christmas charity (of the winner’s choice).

The awards will be:

Judging

Parables will be scored from 1 to 10 on three criteria:

  1. How well they illustrate the specific blessing
  2. How well they relate to every day life
  3. How entertaining and repeatable they are.

The highest overall score will win.

Contest  Rules

    1. Feel free to enter as many times as you like, but each writer is only eligible for a single award.
    2. Only one story can win for a particular blessing. If you are writing a story, your chances of winning improve by choosing a less “popular” blessing.
    3. The parables will be scored from 1 to 10 on 3 criteria, and the highest overall scores will win.
    4. Each parable must be an original story, or the retelling of an actual event.  In other words, you can retell someone’s story in your own words and style, but you can’t submit someone’s writing as your own story.
    5. All entries become the property of the contest and can be published or distributed to teach the lessons they convey.  The author will always be fully credited in any publication (or can be credited as anonymous at the writer’s choice).
    6. We require 200 entries for the full award. If less than 200 entries are received, the prizes will be $1 per entry first place and $.50 per entry second place.

Deadline

All entries must be submitted by December 10th, 2011 to allow time for judging and announcing the winners.

Now Get Going!

Can’t wait to see the great stories everyone is going to tell!
